A lightning protection system provides a safe pathway for energy from a lightning strike to find its way to earth.
If the lightning protection is inadequate or non-existent, the energy (current) will use other methods to get to the earth, for example; wet structural timber, water pipes and installed electrical systems.
This will cause a surge in the electrical system and damage all appliances and electronic equipment connected to the electrical system.
A surge protector protects your electrical systems from power surges caused by, eg: Lightning strikes to power lines and/or the power surges caused by load shedding (the switching on of transformers in the transmission line).
The surge protector “arrests” the surge to earth preventing damage to your installed electrical equipment.
Different electrical equipment ( eg. Electronics and ethernet ) requires different surge protection equipment. It is important to install the correct surge arrestors for your equipment
